MY PROJECTS

Some project breakdowns Rune’s Law Innovations My buddies and I have been working on a gaming book for a while, so this would be the site for it. I think the goal is to eventually turn this into a side hustle for some extra money, but it won’t be something you can live off of. Tinhalo My personal site. A place for blogs and other musings. It hasn’t been getting much love because of the RLI site above.

MY FIRST POST

Hi So I know what you’re thinking, this is another doo-dah project that I’m starting up. I have many things that I’m working on, and sometimes it is too hard to keep up. Between work, tabletop games every other week, little vacation time, home obligations, learning new stuff, watching YouTube videos, plus the basics like eating and sleeping - I sometimes feel overwhelmed by life. It’s not always stress and doom, don’t get me wrong.

DROWNING IN UAT

I tell ya, man, nothing is worse than the crush of UAT. Tons of stuff to get it to where users can use it, and all the nervousness of having them pick apart something you’ve been sweating about 80 hours+ a week. Then it all topples like a house of cards when they use it the way they intended it - despite what you’ve been told in the design phase of the project.

STUDY FINDS NICOTINE SAFE, HELPS IN ALZHEIMER'S, PARKINSON'S

I’m not sure I’d be in a huge rush to get Dad to start using nicotine patches since he’s already taking medication for it - though I wonder if the side effects are comparably better. Study finds nicotine safe, helps in Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s

CATCHING UP AGAIN WITH THE WEB WORLD

On the plus side, I’ve figured out my hosting problems. Now I just need to do some stuff that I have been putting off. I have 2 websites up-and-running that I feel like on a more stable hosting platform, which means I need to get back into making webpages and whatnot. Really, it is a good chance for me to experiment with code that I don’t get the opportunity at work: TypeScript, Identity Management, and artwork.

HOSTING TROUBLES

I’m not terribly pleased to announce that some of my development has little to show for it. My hosting provider seems to be blocking ports yet again and my websites aren’t accessible outside of my own ISP. Just because I don’t have a business connection doesn’t mean that I can have my ports blocked. All traffic is to be treated equally and I should be able to use those ports however I see fit - so long as it isn’t harmful.

THE NEXT DAY

I’ve made it to day two, made a small amount of progress, and have hope for some way to get the site shaped up. I want to get together some layout designs using one of the Adobe tools, but it seems like a bunch doesn’t make it particularly easy. I’m not sure where correctly to start. I at least need to make a logo and come up with a color scheme.

FIRST OF THE YEAR

Well, it is now 2018, and I’m trying to get my websites back up and running as a playground for my brain dribbles. I’ve been in a rut for some many years as far as work, weekends spent programming or tabletop gaming, and sitting around doing little for legacy - I need to get my ducks in a row now else I’ll have nothing to show for it. It’s obnoxious having the urge to do stuff in spurts per Bipolar Disorder.

Steven Altsman Hi. I’m a software developer by both trade and by hobby. I grew up in Kingwood and have lived here for about 35 years. Kingwood is a decent-sized suburb to the north of Houston, about 20 minutes away. It’s a nice place, lots of trees all over the place and is about 50 years old. I used to greatly dislike it when I was in my teens and 20’s, but I attribute that to be young.
